How Much Time Do Small Businesses Spend on Social Media?

Chances are you’re either spending money or valuable time trying to get to grips with social media for your business.  Don’t worry you’re not alone.  So how much time do small businesses spend on social media?   43% of small businesses are spending 6 hours or more on social media every month – according to a survey of 462 small businesses by Vertical Response.

This is what the researchers had to say…..

“Our survey confirms that small businesses are understanding the value of social media,” said Janine Popick, VerticalResponse CEO/founder. “They’re spending more time doing it, and investing more money into it at a faster rate. But the extra work will likely lead to time management issues, especially for the small business owner who’s handling social media on top of all the other responsibilities of running a company. This implies that small businesses are in need of tactics and tools now to help them save time.”

The survey came to 4 conclusions, some of which I can relate to when speaking to small businesses myself.

  1. Small businesses are spending more time on social media, but many are struggling with the added workload.
  2. Small businesses are focusing on Facebook and Twitter, while adoption of Pintrest and Google+ remains slow.
  3. Small businesses are realising the value of content – but, again, time is an issue.
  4. Small businesses are finding value in paying for social media.
Let me know what conclusions you came to in the comments below.
